Your pattern of internet use can offer clues to your mental well-being. In a recent study, 216 undergraduate volunteers from Missouri University of Science and Technology were tested for depression levels. Thirty percent met the criteria for depressive symptoms. The campus information technology department provided internet usage patterns for the participants, and researchers found patterns of usage that were statistically high among participants with depressive symptoms. High file sharing levels, very high e-mail use, and frequent switching among internet applications like e-mail, chat rooms, and games were found to be indicators of depression. A practical application for this research could be software that monitors internet use, and alerts users to possible signs of depression.Read the full article here: How Depressives Surf The WebClick to learn more about depression therapy and treatment with Jane Rubin, Ph.D.
