Music of the Unquiet Mind

In 1944, John Cage wrote “Four Walls.” The piece is written using only the white keys and is about the disturbed mind. Cage himself almost went into the field of psychology, but instead continued to write music and pursued eastern religions and the concept of Zen. Margaret Leng Tan connected with the piece so personally, it helped her cope with her own struggle with obsessive-compulsive disorder. When she got the opportunity to meet him, it was a life-changing event for her.
