In 2003, artist Joe Fig compiled a book consisting of conversations with 24 contemporary artists, Inside the Painter’s Studio. His interview with photorealist Chuck Close puts to rest the idea that an artist must have the perfect place to work and divine inspiration in order to create. Close contends that he can work anywhere, any time. He states that the very act of painting opens doors in his mind that would have remained shut if he just sat around waiting for the artistic bolt of lightening to strike.
