The Environment Shapes Our Behavior

Although it is comforting to think that we have a distinct personality with solid characteristics that persist over time, the truth of the matter is that we often shift our behavior owing to various external influences.  Several studies have been conducted over the years that measured people’s behavior in certain environments.  One such study, in which an honor based coffee station alternated between having a picture of flowers and a picture with eyes, showed that whenever the picture with the eyes was present more money ended up in the “honesty box."
