In our technological universe, we are so plugged-in to the devices we carry around that we have sacrificed conversation for connection. We text, e-mail, shop, go on Facebook and tweet while we are at home, at school and at work. We have found a new way to be “alone together”. We can be with one another, and be elsewhere at the same time, connected to wherever and whatever we want. Technology allows us to present the self we want to be. Human relationships, on the other hand, are messy and demanding, and we have developed the habit of cleaning them up with technology.
