The good news is that mental health care and help for substance abuse are often covered in the insurance provided by an individual’s employer. The bad news is that people who need help for emotional problems still may not be getting what they need even if insurance is available to cover treatments. There are a number of reasons for this, and sometimes it’s the prospective patient himself who delays getting help. He may be concerned that his employer will use mental health issues as a retaliation against him for future promotions or pay raises. Another possibility is that providers or clinics simply aren’t available where the individual is living.
