We all want to feel special, but there is always someone smarter, prettier, or more successful. We tend to deal with this in one of two ways: we either put others down so that we can feel good in comparison or we beat ourselves up. A better way is to stop judging and evaluating ourselves, to stop trying to label ourselves as “good” or “bad,” and simply to accept ourselves with an open heart. We should treat ourselves with the same kindness we would treat a friend. Having compassion for yourself is as important as having compassion for others.
