Eleanor Roosevelt continues to be a positive role model for many. At the age of 76, she wrote the book, YOU LEARN BY LIVING, which is essentially her philosophy on the meaning of life. In one chapter, “Learning to be Useful," she shares her personal ideas on the secret of happiness. Her belief is that true happiness evolves from helping others. She contends that the person who is all-consumed with his own problems and concerns loses touch with life and soon loses interest in anything other than himself. She also firmly believed that a person needed to live by his own convictions and standards and not by the values and beliefs of others.
