Physical warmth can combat these feelings of loneliness. Individuals reported feeling better and more accepted when handed a cup of hot coffee after dealing with a bout of ostracism. Researchers have concluded that people everywhere associate cold with feelings of loneliness and warmth with feelings of being welcomed.
