Prosocial behavior is the ability to notice the distress of others and be affected by it. As a parent, how can you develop and nurture prosocial behavior in your children? And, by doing so, will we raise a nation of altruistic individuals who understand and react to others’ pain and discomfort? There is a difference between sympathy and empathy, and extreme empathy can cause so much personal distress that an individual will avoid a painful situation rather than try to alleviate the problems or issues that cause others to suffer.
