A bachelor’s degree, once considered the key to success and a necessity for anyone who wanted to make his mark in the world, has not only become an option for many, but it has become an anathema for some. Dropping out of college is a badge of honor among 20-somethings devoted to the pursuit of money and fame a la Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg. Some companies, headed by dropouts, actively pursue and hire other dropouts citing the applicants’ thinking-outside-the-box and ability-to-take-risks approach to problems as positive and desirable traits. Even opponents of college degrees concede that they want their doctors and lawyers to have a diploma, however.
