The Atlantic magazine recently published a controversial cover story by Anne-Marie Slaughter, a Princeton University scholar and former Obama administration official. Asking if women today can still have it all: be involved mothers, superstar workers, and perfect wives, Ms. Slaughter answered, no, we can’t. Alpha women with alpha opportunities should accept beta careers if they want to be mothers. A question not answered is whether society is well-served by having so many alpha leaders in general. Alpha leaders, including government servants, have chosen their careers over their families, people with beta careers are more balanced.
