Self-forgiveness is often a double-edged sword. While NOT forgiving one’s self has been linked to depression, suicide, and eating disorders; forgiving TOO EASILY has been shown to reduce empathy for others. So, how does one toe this line in terms of self-forgiveness? Psychyourmind.com suggests following these four steps: 1) Don’t get rid of guilt. Guilt is helpful for learning and growing, but DO get rid of shame. 2) Own up. Accept responsibility and move on. 3) Pay your dues.
