An author from the site, Psych-your-mind.blogpost, discusses how the rich differ from the poor, addressing the way members in both communities navigate feelings of empathy. One study conducted by the University of Toronto, had people from varying educational backgrounds take an emotional intelligence test in which they attempted to pinpoint the emotion of an individual in a photograph based on the individual’s facial expression. The results showed that participants with only high school backgrounds were more likely to accurately determine the correct emotion, whereas individuals with a college background struggled to guess correctly. This may suggest how awareness of others’ emotions is related to class experience.
