The Power of Positive Procrastination

Procrastinators, unite! Independent research has finally come up with a name for the condition that you and thousands of your fellow put-off-until-tomorrow comrades-in-arms suffer from. John Perry, a Stanford philosopher, calls it “structured procrastination” and has published his findings 17 years after identifying the concept. Perry realized that he wasn’t lazy and found that procrastinators seldom are. Dr. Perry concludes that procrastinators really can get a lot done and need to structure their tasks accordingly. Piers Steel, a psychologist at the University of Calgary, refers to “productive procrastination” as the art of pursuing one task in order to avoid another task that the individual perceives as more difficult or daunting.
