When Getting Angry Makes You Happy

If you avoid feeling anger, smile, practice kindness, and savor the moment, positive psychology says you'll generally be happy. A recent study, however, indicates that you're better off experiencing emotions appropriate to your situation than you are when seeking to be happy all the time. These emotions, pleasant or not, may be the key to lasting happiness. Participants were asked to role-play either a confrontational or a collaborative situation. After listening to clips of music chosen to inspire anger, happiness, or no emotion, they chose which complete song they wanted to hear. Those playing confrontational roles chose the angry song, and afterward showed greater psycholical health than those who chose to be happy.
